Blueberry Cream Cheese Breakfast Braid

The spring thaw has finally started here and that has my mind on the garden and all things outside. We planted a large amount of Blueberry bushes (as well as Raspberry and Honeyberry bushes) last year and I'm hoping that we will be able to harvest some berries from the plants this year.

Blueberries happened to be on sale at the local grocery store recently, so I decided to give a new recipe a try with one of the clams. This one has a shortcut using crescent rolls as the base. Enter the Blueberry Cream Cheese Breakfast Braid.

Ingredients

1 8 ounce package refrigerated crescent roll sheet

1 egg for egg wash

Berry Filling

1 6 ounce clamshell bluberries

1 tablespoon sugar

2 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon lemon juice

Cream Cheese Filling

4 ounces cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons butter, softened

1 tablespoon sugar

2 tablespoons flour

Glaze

1 tablespoon butter

1 cup of powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2-4 tablespoons milk

1. Toss blueberries with sugar, flour, and lemon juice.

2. In a different bowl, whisk together cream cheese, butter, sugar and flour.

3. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or use a silicone baking sheet and roll out sheet of crescent dough. (You can also use regular crescent roll dough and pinch together the seams.)

4. Spread the cream cheese filling mix down the middle third of the dough. Pour blueberry mixture on top of the cream cheese filling.

5. Cut Diagonal lines down the outer two thirds of the dough. Fold each piece over the top of the filling. Fold over each end.

6. In another small bowl, whisk 1 egg and brush egg over the top of the braid.

7. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven and eat after slightly cooled.

8. While the braid is cooling, make the glaze. Melt butter. Add in vanilla and 2 tablespoons milk and whisk in powdered sugar. Add in more milk until desired consistency of glaze is made.

9. Drizzle glaze on braid, eat and serve.

Now, I'm sure any berry could be used in place of the blueberries, but I haven't tried them yet since this is a new recipe to me. I do know that Oliver inhaled the piece I gave him, so it is toddler approved with blueberries.
